Meliquina is a lake located in the department Lácar province of Neuquen. It is a glacial lake type, which occupies a wide valley perpendicular to the Andes. It is surrounded by Andean Patagonian forest, especially consisting of beech and coihues. This lake is protected by the Lanin National Park on the south coast, but its northern coast is privately owned. On the north side of the lake there is a private hunting area, called "Diana Park", in which they have introduced foreign animal species such as deer and mouflon for sport hunting. As expected, these animals invade the National Park and successfully compete with local deer, the huemul and pudú. The lake is accessible via two good gravel roads, that communicate with the nearby cities of San Martin de los Andes and the more distant San Carlos de Bariloche.
