Perga or Perge was an ancient capital of Pamphylia Secunda. The acropolis located there dates back to the Bronze Age. Place occupied initialy by Hittites then Greeks, then Persians, back to Athenians and Persians again. Alexander the Great occupied Perge and after him Seleucids, then the Romans. St. Paul journeyed to Perga too. During the reign of Constantine the Great, Perga became an important centre of Christianity. Perga is today a very important archaeological site and a tourist attraction. There were numerous excavations and discoveries since 1946.
